An extensive 2021 to 2026 refit
Between 2021 and 2026, Contango has been through a continuous, captain-driven programme of technical and cosmetic work that takes her well beyond what a 2006 yacht would normally offer. The main engines received documented MTU specialist works in 2023: high-pressure fuel pumps and injectors were overhauled and refitted with new seals and gaskets, the fuel system was cleaned and checked, valve clearances were adjusted, and ECU diagnostics came back clear of faults.
A new Kohler 20.5 kW generator was installed in 2023, the Idromar watermaker was rebuilt the same year with new pumps and membranes, the Tohmei ARG MSM 4000 gyro stabilisers were inspected in 2024 and reported in very good condition, and the fresh-water tanks, grey-water tank, seawater inlet valves and through-hull fittings have all been renewed. The hull and superstructure have been repainted, the master bathroom fully renovated, and fresh antifouling and a full underwater service completed in 2025. She comes with a comprehensive documentation and service history file.
Private use only, never chartered
Hull number six of the range, Contango has been privately used and never chartered under the current ownership since 2021, and the difference that makes to a yacht of this age shows in every compartment. This is the point that most surprises brokers and buyers the first time they step aboard: very few people expect a twenty-year-old yacht to look and run like this. Maintained to an exceptional standard and genuinely turnkey, she is ready for a new owner to step on board and start cruising.
The Italian lobster boat, at its largest
Mochi Craft is the Ferretti Group brand that took the New England lobster boat and rebuilt it in Italy. The line began in 2003 as an idea of Norberto Ferretti and designer Brunello Acampora, and the Dolphin 74 became its flagship: the same long sheer, low deckhouse and workboat honesty as the originals, wrapped around the interior volume and the systems of a full Ferretti Group yacht. Two decades on, she is still one of the very few 74-footers that looks like nothing else on the dock.
Layout: three levels, two helms
Contango is arranged over three levels and operated from twin helm stations. The enclosed lower helm is integrated into the salon with a leather-trimmed console and elevated skipper's chair, and the upper flybridge helm offers all-round panoramic visibility. Both carry matching Raymarine multifunction displays.
The flybridge is effectively a second living level: upper helm, a wet bar with fridge and electric barbecue, alfresco dining for six, an aft sun lounger and custom director's chairs, shaded throughout the day by a full bimini. The main deck holds the full-beam salon, a formal dining area, the galley and the lower helm, with an open sightline through to the console, a signature Mochi Craft arrangement. The lower deck is given over to the owner and guests, with crew accommodation forward and its own access.
Six guests are accommodated in three en-suite staterooms: a full-beam master amidships with his-and-hers bathrooms and a separate rainfall shower room clad in blue glass mosaic; a forward VIP double; and a twin guest cabin. A dedicated office cabin, rare at this size, is fitted with a bespoke L-shaped desk and integrated storage, and converts easily into a study or additional cabin. Three crew live in two cabins, with a proper crew galley added during the refit.
Timber, teak and mosaic below
The interior is the part of a yacht that dates the least, and here it has aged particularly well. Warm satin-finished cherry joinery, teak-and-holystone soles, shoji-style interior doors and mosaic-tiled bathrooms give Contango the feel of a classic Italian motoryacht rather than a production flybridge. The galley is finished with marble worktops and full-size appliances, including a new double-door fridge-freezer.
Systems and connectivity
Twin MTU 12V 2000 engines of approximately 1,522 hp each drive conventional shafts through ZF 2050 A gearboxes, with around 2,430 hours on each side as of January 2026.
A full Raymarine navigation and communication suite was renewed around 2021, alongside a FLIR thermal camera and 4K aft CCTV. A Peplink 5G network integrated with Starlink satellite internet gives proper connectivity underway, with automatic 4G/5G failover. Two Kohler generators, the 20.5 kW unit new in 2023 and the approximately 9 kW original, both carry low hours and have been fully serviced. Gyro stabilisation is by Tohmei ARG MSM 4000, and a new interior and exterior audio system was fitted in 2021.
Main deck aft, garage and swim platform
The main deck aft is Contango's signature outdoor living space: a beautifully laid teak deck with a curved sofa and alfresco dining for up to eight, sheltered by a retractable awning bearing the yacht's dolphin emblem. It is a spacious and comfortable area for dining and relaxing at anchor, and it leads directly to the swim platform and the tender garage.
The purpose-built transom garage, repainted during the refit and fitted with a new rolling launch system, carries a Sea-Doo jet ski, two Seabob F5S underwater scooters and a Fliteboard S2 electric hydrofoil, all fully serviced in 2025 and deployable from the hydraulic swim platform within minutes.
Forward, a private bow sun lounge with a full double sunpad offers a quiet retreat away from the aft deck, reached along wide teak-laid side decks.
